Thigh LiftAbout The Procedure A Thigh Lift is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from either the inner or outer thighs of individuals in whom liposuction alone will not correct the aesthetic deformity. In the Thigh Lift or procedure, lax skin and fat are removed and the scars are placed in locations that can be hidden within the bikini line.
Procedure Description The Thigh Lift requires only a short incision which extends from the front part of the thigh/groin crease around to the buttock crease. The excess skin is removed and the remaining skin edges (flaps) are sewn together under significant tension. The patient is placed in a compressive garment which goes from the waist to just above the knees.
Best Candidates for Thigh Lift Surgery Thigh Lift candidates must be in good health, have no active diseases or serious, pre-existing medical conditions, and must have realistic expectations of the outcome of the surgery.
Ideal candidates for Thigh Lift surgery are usually those who have had extreme weight gains and losses or have developed laxity due to age.
Length of the Procedure Thigh Lift surgery takes 2 to 4 hours, depending on the extent of the procedure.
Anesthesia The Thigh Lift procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia.
Possible Side Effects Thigh Lift patients may experience temporary pain, swelling, bruising, soreness and fatigue. Some of the sensory nerves to the skin on both the arm and thigh will be cut and transient or permanent numbness is unavoidable.
Recovery The patient can usually return to work in 1 to 2 weeks. Exercise and strenuous activity may be resumed 4 to 6 weeks following surgery.
Duration of Results Thigh Lift results are long-lasting, but subject to change with weight fluctuation.
Risks In addition to the risks of all surgeries, Thigh Lift incisions can dehisce (the wound opens). If this occurs, the problem is treated with dressing changes and oral antibiotics and typically responds well.
Cost Expect to pay $4,000 to $10,000 for a Thigh Lift.
Scars The forces of gravity and the continuous movements of the area cause a constant tension on the scars. The scars can be broadened.
