Restylane

About The Procedure
Restylane is a transparent and viscous gel. It is a unique form of non-animal, stabilized Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural polysaccharide which occurs as an important structural element in the skin and in subcutaneous and corrective tissue.

Restylane acts by adding volume to the tissue, thereby restoring the skin contours or enhancing the lips to the desired level of correction. Restylane and Perlane Injectables or Fillers are a fast, safe, non-surgical way to reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. The procedure smooths facial lines, wrinkles and scars, and also enhances the lip border in just one treatment session, with immediate, visible results.

Procedure Description
Restylane can be injected through a tiny needle just below the surface of the skin to smooth wrinkles or define the lip border.

Best Candidates for Restylane Injections
Candidates must be in good health, have no active diseases or serious, pre-existing medical conditions, and must have realistic expectations of the outcome of the surgery. Candidates include those who would like to reduce the appearance of lines around the mouth’ modify nasolabial folds (under the nose) and eye trough deformities; and contour their cheeks and mouth.

Restylane should not be used in patients who have severe allergies marked by a history of anaphylaxis (hypersensitivity to the ingestion or injection of a drug or protein); multiple severe allergies; or severe allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteins.

Length of the Procedure
The duration of Restylane injections depends upon the area treated. Typically the filler is administered in 10 to 30 minutes.

Anesthesia
Most commonly no anesthesia is required with Restylane injections. If necessary, local numbing cream may be applied to area to be injected and should be applied about 15 minutes in advance of the procedure.

Inpatient or Outpatient?
Restylane injections are administered on an outpatient basis.

Possible Side Effects
Some patients may experience some swelling and soreness in the injected area.

Recovery
After Restylane injections are administered, patients can return to work immediately.

Duration of Results
Restylane injection results are immediate and usually last for 3 to 9 months, depending upon the natural absorption of the body.

Risks
Allergic reactions to Restylane injections may occur, but are rare.

Cost
Expect to pay $275 to $445, depending on the amount of volume and the amount of area to be covered.
