Mid-Body Lift

About The Procedure
Mid-Body Lift surgery is common for people who have experienced massive weight loss and who have loose skin extending all the way around the abdomen and back. Very often these are people who have undergone gastric bypass or similar surgery.

Procedure Description
In a Mid-Body Lift, excess skin is removed via incisions similar to those used in a lower body lift. The surgeon uses the incision around the waist to access the abdominal muscles. The muscles are then pulled together and stitched into place to create a trimmer waistline and a flatter stomach. The incision is then closed and bandaged.

Best Candidates for Mid-Body Lift, Torsoplasty, Mid Body Lift
Mid-Body Lift candidates must be in good health, have no active diseases or serious, pre-existing medical conditions, and must have realistic expectations of the outcome of the surgery.

Mid-Body Lift surgery is a solution for anyone who’s lost 60 to 350 pounds and is left with excess skin on their face, breasts, back, trunk and thighs. Extremely obese people often experience a loss in skin elasticity due to the prolonged periods of stretching from the increased volume of weight.

Candidates for Mid-Body Lift surgery include patients who have undergone bariatric surgery to combat obesity since their original size hindered mobility and exercise.

Length of the Procedure
Mid Body Lift surgery takes 2 to 7 hours, depending on the extent of the procedure.

Anesthesia
The Mid Body Lift procedure is performed under general anesthesia.

Inpatient or Outpatient?
The Mid-Body Lift is typically performed on an inpatient basis. A one to four day hospital stay is required.

Possible Side Effects
Common temporary side effects associated with Mid Body Lift surgery include bruising, pain, and numbness all of which usually resolve within several months.

Recovery
Depending on the extent of the Mid-Body Lift surgery, your hospital stay can range from 1-4 days. Any discomfort you may feel will be controlled by medication prescribed to you by your plastic surgeon. Recovery time can be variable as well, but most patients are able to return back to non-strenuous work within 2-4 weeks. Depending on the extent of the surgery, most patients are able to return back to work within 3 weeks.

Duration pf Results
The results achieved with a Mid-Body Lift are permanent but remain sensitive to diet and exercise. Even after contouring, patients with previously loose skin will experience loosening and sagging much faster with age than their peers.

Risks
Major risks include seroma formation, a fluid accumulation in the areas of the back. This is usually treated by repeated needle aspirations.

Wound separation is another possible risk and careful postoperative management of the patient best avoids it. Deep vein thrombosis, or blood clot formation in the legs after surgery, can lead to pulmonary embolus, which is a blood clot that travels to the lungs. This is a dangerous complication and every attempt is made to prevent its occurrence. This involves making sure the patient walks as soon as possible after surgery.

Cost
Expect to pay $10,000 to $15,000 for a Mid-Body Lift.

Scars
Following Mid-Body Lift surgery, post-operative scars typically extend from along the lower abdomen, around the hips, and toward the buttock crease. There is another scar in each groin crease due to the inner thigh lift. Body lift patients may incur additional incision scars depending on the number of procedures performed.
